The PPP Framework Explained

Presentation, Practice, Production - the classic lesson framework for new teachers.

PPP (Presentation, Practice, Production) is the “bread and butter” of many initial teacher training courses. It provides a clear, logical flow for introducing new language.

1. Presentation

In this stage, the teacher introduces the Target Language (TL) in a clear context (e.g., a story, a picture, or a situation).

Focus on MPF: Meaning, Pronunciation, Form.

2. Practice (Controlled)

Students use the language in a restricted way. The goal is accuracy.

Examples: Gap fills, drilling, sentence transformation.

3. Production (Freer)

Students use the language more creatively in a communication-focused task. The goal is fluency.

Examples: Roleplays, discussions, personalized writing.

⚠️ **NQT Pitfall:** Many new teachers spend too much time on Presentation and run out of time for Production. Try to aim for a 20-40-40 split.
